Overview
Kazakhmys Plc is an international FTSE100 company with offices in Kazakhstan and the UK. Their principal business is the mining, processing, smelting, refining and sale of copper and copper products.
With headquarters in London and employees worldwide, Kazakhmys are the largest producer of copper in Kazakhstan, and tenth largest in the world.
ITRM were tasked with proposing an all encompassing solution that would incorporate a server solution to consolidate and refresh the existing IT Infrastructure in their offices in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Through our successful working partnership and our continued Support of their IT infrastructure, Kazakhmys Plc did not hesitate to hand ITRM the responsibility in overseeing this significant project.
Objectives
- To improve and upgrade the existing IT infrastructure within the Almaty office, Kazakhstan.
- To achieve the highest standard of network efficiency and flexibility in key areas by using the latest hardware and software technology available.
- To install & configure a new core infrastructure.
- To ensure that purchasing, shipment and delivery of all necessary equipment is achieved within set timescales.
- To provide secure connectivity between the offices in Almaty and headquarters in London.
- To migrate all local systems data and applications to the new network platform.
- To provide and confi gure a backup solution that would enable the client to backup remote sites to one central location.
- To install, migrate and test both the core infrastructure and desktop environments.
- To install a number of comms cabinets to enable racking of equipment, patching and testing.
- To provide cut-over support and user training through onsite 2nd and 3rd line engineers.
- ITRM are confi dent that the proposed solution will deliver high levels of performance and reliability over the current systems, as well as providing considerable capacity for growth.
Solution
ITRM provided a complete solution for the Almaty office, based on a replica of the UK office infrastructure. ITRM provided a number of fully redundant servers and networking equipment which enabled the client to consolidate a large amount of data onto the servers from the local PC’s, and improve file and data sharing.It also improved the speed, resiliency, security and backup.
ITRM also completed a full desktop upgrade and rollout for all users. New hardware and software was installed, including full anti-virus, updates and operating systems. A secure VPN tunnel between the Almaty and UK offices was successfully created allowing sensitive data to be shared between the sites securely.
A Gigabit backbone was installed to enhance connectivity between the servers and networking equipment and a new back-up solution was also implemented. The in-depth planning of the project ensured a seemless cutover and minimal user issues.
The overall solution that ITRM proposed consisted of certified industry leading edge technology and will help Kazakhmys Plc expand and improve in the future. The experience of working closely with Kazakhmys Plc enabled ITRM to implement the most cost effi cient and correct solution well within the given timescales.
