Overview

Kazakhmys plc is an international FTSE100 company with bases in Kazakhstan, Germany and the UK. Their principal business is the mining, processing, smelting, refining and sale of copper and copper products. With headquarters in London and 66,000 employees worldwide, Kazakhmys are the largest producer of copper in Kazakhstan, and tenth in the world.

ITRM were recommended to Kazakhmys as they required an IT consultancy for their Office Move, IT Infrastructure design, Internet Connectivity, Telephone System Installation, Network Security Cameras and ongoing IT Support.

Objectives

  • To provide a complete IT Infrastructure Solution using the latest hardware and software technology available.
  • To design a cost efficient resilient infrastructure, incorporating flexibility in key areas.
  • To provide a high speed Internet service with built in resiliency to ensure no down time.
  • To provide a fully managed core network support service, including on site consultancy, bi-annual preventative maintenance visits, loan equipment and 24-7 cover for the critical system components.

Solution

ITRM provided a complete solution for Kazakhmys’s headquarters. This office now has access to the latest Microsoft technology through maintained, locally hosted servers. Leased line Internet connectivity was introduced with resilient fail over backup. Kazakhmys is now able to have high speed access for the all users whilst incurring the minimum costs in terms of network or Internet connections.

By maintaining the existing Windows Business Server Software, it was possible to significantly reduce the licensing costs involved in the new infrastructure. ITRM installed four new servers and set up a quality remote access system required for business critical applications.

ITRM installed a new state of the art Avaya IP office based telephone system which is fully network integrated.

The solution that ITRM proposed consisted of certified industry leading edge technology and aimed to take Kazakhmys a long way into the future. This was designed with all the company’s business requirements in mind and is by far the most comprehensive.

ITRM have considered the future expansion needs of all Kazakhmys’s offices and will continue to support the company through regular consultancy and maintenance visits and offering maximum support when required.
