Teenage Cancer Trust support the seven young people each day who hear the words “you have cancer” and, those already diagnosed through funding specialist nursing care and social/youth support to get them through it. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to helping those aged 13-24 with cancer.
The charity organises several fundraising campaigns and events throughout the year – one of them being the ‘Walk with Us’ campaign. This fundraising event sees participants walk at least 15,000 steps per day, which is the average number of steps a cancer care nurse takes each day. All participants encourage donations, of which go solely towards Teenage Cancer Trust.
ITRM continuously supports charitable organisations and wanted to extend the reach of the ‘Walk with Us’ event; therefore, partnered with Sidcup Partners to encourage and invite local Sidcup businesses and residents to partake. The teams from ITRM and Sidcup Partners visited each partaking business, providing posters with scannable QR codes directing to the JustGiving page, window promotional posters, bunting, and cash collection pots – ensuring the event was positively promoted within the local community.
Sidcup Partners and ITRM chose for the event to take place across several days to ensure maximum footfall and to align with shops/business opening times. The first day of fundraising took place on Sunday 4th February, which also highlights World Cancer Day, and continued until Tuesday 6th February.
Collectively, the partaking businesses walked a whopping total of 73,758 steps and raised over the original target of £250 across both the event JustGiving page and from cash collection pots that were placed on the tills of businesses.
