On Friday, January 5th, all ITRM staff attended our kick-off meeting and rock climbing team-building exercise. Here's how it went...

Kick-Off:

On January 5th, 2024, ITRM hosted our annual 'kick-off' event at Charlton Athletic FC's home ground, 'The Valley'. The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) presented a PowerPoint that underlined the direction ITRM want to move in across the upcoming months. The main objective of the event was to bring all team members together and reiterate the company's core values and future targets, ensuring everyone moves forward in unity.

After a short refreshment break, CACT (Charlton Athletic Community Trust), with whom we've worked in partnership with for over ten years, also presented. Highlighting the history of their organisation combined with the history of our relations. Furthermore, they showed the important work that they do for our local community, showing the positive impact that ITRM can have on people's lives by utilising our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) days and continuing our involvement with CACT.

Rock Climbing:

Once the meeting was completed, and happy birthdays had been sung (Happy Birthday to our Chief Operating Officer, John Redfern, our Business Operations Manager, Sue Thorpe and our Account Manager, Joe Greenwood!), the ITRM team headed to 'The Reach' in South London to partake in rock climbing. Across the team, there was anticipation behind rock climbing, with most people unsure of what to expect.

Upon arrival, everyone changed their shoes into specialist footwear and completed the safety briefing, after which climbing began. There were various walls with different skill levels, including inverted, vertical, and overhanging walls, each varying in difficulty. For the more advanced climbers, there were options for adding extra challenges to their climbs, such as wearing boxing gloves while climbing, being blindfolded, and even for ITRM’s 'Apprentice Information Communication Technician', Billy Ford, both! By the end of the day, all teams collectively climbed around 5,000 meters, which is equivalent to 1,136 London buses.

The Outcome

Overall, the kick-off event at The Valley followed by rock climbing at The Reach was a fantastic day for all ITRM team members. The presentations from the SLT and CACT served to remind us of the company's core values and the positive impact we can have on our local community through CSR. The rock-climbing activity was a great way to bond and build team spirit, with everyone pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and supporting each other. It was a successful day that achieved its objective of bringing the team together to focus on the company's future targets and move forward in unity.
